For us style evolves through an exchange of ideas and is influenced by the unique requirements and context of each project. Connection to the site, expression of simple forms, and richness of materials and light are underlying themes in our work.

In addition to illustrating our work, this site has been established as a resource with design tips and trade contacts. We have also included a lifestyle section which features a few of our favourite things.

Shawn's interest in architecture was sparked early in life by his exposure to various family construction projects. In 1990 he graduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia with his Master's Degree in architecture, the youngest in his class. He then moved to Vancouver, where he began his career. Initially focusing on custom homes and renovations, he later applied his design sensibilities to commercial/ industrial buildings. In 2003 he launched Blackwell Architecture. He continues to balance his practice between custom homes and commercial projects.
