Keeping personal space in mind within a shared living environment, this contemporary duplex occupies a prominent corner lot, allowing each residence to address a different street and benefit from its own independent entry. This strategic siting enhances privacy while establishing a distinct street presence for each home. With individuality in mind, the entry to the rear residence was positioned to act as a visual seam, subtly separating the two dwellings while maintaining a cohesive architectural composition. Additionally, acoustic separation was enhanced through the placement of stair structures on either side of a central dividing wall, minimizing sound transmission while simplifying the required fire separation and air barrier assemblies between the units. The design balances contemporary architectural expression with traditional residential detailing, responding to the density of urban living while maintaining architectural clarity and interest.
