A sequence of landscaped steps creates a gradual and inviting approach to this modern, West Coast residence in the heart of Vancouver. Perched on a hillside overlooking the bustling city below, this home was designed to capture, from all three of its levels, the expansive city and ocean views that lay beneath it, while simultaneously offering its residents a private, escape from the urban setting that surrounds them. Designed around the natural light, centrally located skylights and high-level windows were integrated to draw daylight deep into the interior of the home. A cozy backyard patio invites residents to privately enjoy the urban courtyard that surrounds them, and a sculptural staircase leads them to a generous operable skylight that opens onto a rooftop deck with panoramic views across the Vancouver skyline. The West Coast identity of this residential project is reflected in its restrained palette of basalt stone cladding, warm fir soffits, and low-sloped zinc roofs.
